Vitamin B12 | Cobalamin

The structure of vitamin B12 is the most complex of all vitamins. Its molecule has a porphyrin cycle similar to that of haem and chlorophyll dyes, but with cobalt as its central atom. Vitamin B12 occurs in several major forms: hydroxy-, cyano-, and methylcobalamin. Vitamin B12 serves as a cofactor in several enzymatic reactions. This vitamin is industrially produced through special fermentation using bacteria.
